Fentanyl-type substance in white powder causes multiple hospitalisations in Wairarapa region

High Alert have released an urgent warning after a substance misrepresented as cocaine has been linked to serious harm events in the Wairarapa region over the weekend. The substance is sold as a white powder and contains a Fentanyl type substance. Fentanyl is not a stimulant like cocaine, but rather an extremely powerful opioid that has been linked to thousands of deaths in the US each year.

You can read the full alert and more about Fentanyl at High Alert.

Adulterated and misrepresented drugs are a direct result of the governments failed policy of prohibition. Most New Zealanders now days support the change to a health based approach for dealing with drugs.

Fentanyl test strips are available here. These will show if Fentanyl is present.
We also have EZ Test Cocaine test kits available here. These will not detect Fentanyl, but will show if cocaine is present.
