Mexican Marigold Seeds (Tagetes erecta)
The Mexican Marigold (aka. Aztec Marigold or Zempoalxochitl) is a beautiful flowering herb in the Asteraceae family, that is found in the wild in the Mexican states of State of México, Puebla, and Veracruz.
The Aztecs gathered the wild plant as well as cultivating it for medicinal, ceremonial and decorative purposes. It is used as a sacred inebriant by the Mixe indians of Oaxaca who make hot-water infusions of nine flowers for divinatory purposes. This species is also used as a malaria remedy in Madagscar.
Cultivation: Sow seeds in a well drained potting mix in full sun. Cover seeds just enough to weigh them down and keep warm until germination in 1-2 weeks. Separate when seedlings are large enough and plant in a full sun position.
