Traditional Usage:
Liquorice is one of the more widely consumed herbs in the world. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it occurs in more formulas than any other single herb because it is thought to harmonize the action of all other herbs. Liquorice root has been used as a potent adrenal and nerve tonic as well as a mood enhancer and mild laxative. Due to its nice sweet taste it can also be used as a sugar alternative. Liquorice can be used to mask the taste of other less palatable herbal brews, teas or smokes. It is one of the flavouring herbs found in the fabled psychoactive liquor Absinthe and is also commonly used to flavor tobacco. When mixed with smoking products Liquorice is claimed to make the smoke smoother and easier to inhale, resulting in greater absorption of the other active ingredients.
