Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) has a taste similar to licorice and is used as an ingredient in teas, wine, confectionery and herbal tobacco. It was traditionally smoked by native American tribes as an expectorant to aid coughing and promote the upward flow of mucus. Coltsfoot was mixed in medium amounts with other herbs whenever the lungs needed a good clean out. Coltsfoot is sometimes used when quitting Tobacco, as an aid to clean out the lungs, however like Tobacco, Coltsfoot may also be somewhat carcinogenic, so is best used in moderation.

Usage: To make a tea, steep 1 teaspoon of dried Coltsfoot Leaf in 1 cup of boiling water for 20 minutes.

Warning: Do not use Coltsfoot when you can not stop coughing, are coughing up blood or if it hurts when you breathe. If this is the case seek professional medical advise.
